About the owner

My name is Mike Leech. After moving to the Outer Banks in 2017, I quickly fell in love with the lifestyle, the people, and the sense of community that makes this place unlike anywhere else. What started as a new chapter became home, and over the years I've been fortunate enough to build a career doing what I love.

For nearly a decade, I've worked as a professional photographer, specializing in surf, lifestyle, sports, and commercial photography. What began with a camera and a love for the ocean eventually led to opportunities I never imagined. My work has been viewed by millions across social media and has allowed me to collaborate with athletes, businesses, and nationally recognized brands while telling stories through imagery.

Photography taught me lessons that extend far beyond a camera—attention to detail, consistency, creativity, and the importance of creating experiences that people remember. Those same principles became the foundation for every business venture I've pursued.

Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to work with brands, business owners, and organizations across a wide range of industries. Whether creating content for major companies, helping local businesses grow, or building my own ventures from the ground up, I've always been drawn to one thing: creating something people genuinely connect with.

The Den was born from that mindset.

Coffee has always been a part of my daily routine. Early mornings before a sunrise shoot, long editing sessions, surf checks at first light, meetings with clients, road trips, and countless conversations all seemed to start with a cup of coffee in hand. Over time, I realized coffee wasn't just a drink—it was part of the rhythm of everyday life.

I began imagining what my ideal coffee shop would look like. Not just another place serving coffee, but a brand built around quality, authenticity, and hospitality. A place that reflected the values I believe in and the community that has shaped me.

The name The Den represents comfort, trust, and familiarity. It's a place people return to because they know what to expect: quality products, friendly service, and a business that genuinely cares about the people it serves.

Every detail of The Den has been intentional—from the coffee we source and the products we offer to the atmosphere, branding, and customer experience. We've built this business with the belief that quality still matters, kindness never goes out of style, and that the little things are often what people remember most.

The Outer Banks has given me opportunities, friendships, and experiences that have shaped who I am. The Den is my way of giving something back—a business that reflects the spirit of this community and serves the people who make it special.

Today, The Den stands as the culmination of years spent building brands, pursuing creativity, learning from successes and failures, and believing that great businesses are built on relationships, not transactions.

Whether you're grabbing coffee before work, checking the surf at sunrise, heading out for a beach day, or starting a family vacation, we're honored to be a small part of your routine.

Welcome to The Den.
